Fraud Against the Government
Government contracts are legally binding agreements where private companies, known as government contractors, provide goods or services to government agencies in exchange for payment. Government contractor fraud involves deceiving federal or state governments for financial gain. Examples of government contractor fraud include:
- improperly overbilling, or over charging, on government contracts,
- delivering substandard goods or services,
- bid-rigging in order to obtain a government contract,
- bribing government officials in order to obtain a government contract, or
- falsely certifying compliance with government requirements in order to obtain a government contract.
